Conflict of Interest Policy

Universal Journal is committed to maintaining the integrity, transparency, and credibility of scholarly publishing. All participants in the publication process—including authors, editors, reviewers, and editorial board members—must disclose any actual or potential conflicts of interest that could influence the review, editorial decision, or publication of a manuscript.

1. Purpose

This policy aims to ensure that all editorial decisions are based solely on the scholarly merit of submitted manuscripts and are free from inappropriate influence.

2. Definition of Conflict of Interest

A conflict of interest exists when financial, professional, institutional, or personal relationships could affect—or appear to affect—the objectivity of authors, reviewers, or editors.

Examples include:

  • Financial support from organizations related to the research.
  • Employment or consultancy relationships.
  • Ownership of stocks or patents.
  • Personal relationships or academic competition.
  • Institutional affiliations that may influence editorial judgment.

3. Responsibilities of Authors

  • Authors must disclose all potential conflicts of interest upon manuscript submission.
  • All funding sources must be clearly acknowledged.
  • Authors must ensure that disclosed conflicts do not compromise research integrity.

4. Responsibilities of Reviewers

  • Reviewers must decline review invitations if conflicts of interest exist.
  • Reviewers must maintain confidentiality.
  • Reviewers shall evaluate manuscripts objectively and fairly.

5. Responsibilities of Editors

  • Editors shall make editorial decisions solely on academic merit.
  • Editors must recuse themselves from handling manuscripts where conflicts exist.
  • Editors shall not use unpublished information for personal advantage.

6. Disclosure Statement

Authors are required to include a Conflict of Interest Statement in every manuscript. If no conflict exists, authors should state:

"The authors declare that they have no conflict of interest."

7. Failure to Disclose

Failure to disclose relevant conflicts of interest may result in:

  • Rejection of the manuscript;
  • Publication of a correction;
  • Retraction of the published article;
  • Notification to the authors' institution if necessary.

8. Compliance with International Standards

Universal Journal follows internationally recognized publishing ethics, including recommendations from the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing.
