An Independent Study is a form of education offered by UIPM. It is sometimes referred to as a directed study and is an educational activity undertaken by an individual with little to no supervision. Typically a student and professor or teacher agree upon a topic for the student to research with guidance from the instructor for an agreed-upon amount of credits. Independent studies provide a way for well-motivated students to pursue a topic of interest that does not necessarily fit into a traditional academic curriculum. They are a way for students to learn specialized material or gain research experience.

Independent studies provide students opportunities to explore their interests deeper and make important decisions about how and where they will direct their talents in the future. Another way to understand independent study is to understand learning from a distance. Learning from a distance is a theory in which the student is at a physical or a mental distance from his or her teacher. The student and the teacher are connected by something such as a worksheet, an essay, or through a website on the internet.

Real Class Tutorial

UIPM also provides Real Class tutorials to those who want to study in groups, and exchange opinions for independent lectures, of course, especially those in the closest location to the Real Class in the UIPM Office.

Education Duration

Earning a micro-credential can take anywhere from four weeks to a year, depending on the skill being developed and expectations of the course.

Micro-credentials are certification-style qualifications that individuals choose to study to improve or develop a skill found in a particular industry area. This type of credential is typically short, low-cost, and Overall, micro-credentials hold authority in the professional landscape as they help candidates to stand out in the recruitment process and enhance employability potential, and offer a narrow skill to an industry-area that is valued by employers.

Micro-credentials are a competency-based digital form of certification. They can be issued for formal and informal professional learning experiences that support educators developing skills and acquiring knowledge to improve professional practice that supports student success. Educators identify a competency they want to develop, submit evidence that they have mastered the competency, and receive a digital badge once the evidence is approved. 

Micro-credentials can be developed by non-profit and for-profit entities or developed by educators. Where the association is the exclusive bargaining representative, the terms and conditions for a micro-credential program should be negotiated. Micro-credentials are a digital form of certification indicating demonstrated competency/mastery in a specific skill or set of skills. 

The duration of education taken by students is by the study program taken, namely:

1.   Bachelor Degree Study Program (Undergraduate)  in all faculties, duration of education is 8 semesters, per semester, are 3 months, meaning 8 semesters become 2 years.

2.   Master’s Degree Study Program (Graduate) in all faculties, duration of education for 4 semesters or 8 semesters.

3.   Doctoral Degree Study Program Post Graduate) in all faculties, duration of education for 4 semesters or 8 semesters Internal Academic Regulations

The Internal Academic Rules :

1.   The students must make a paper for each course listed in the curriculum or syllabus prepared by UIPM Academic Management.

2.   Every semester (Semester applied at UIPM is made effectively, each semester is taken for 3/6 months), students must make paper that is combined with the semester curriculum.

3.   Ending semester, for example, the Bachelor Program can be completed within 6 semesters up to 8 semesters, which are calculated every semester is 3/6 months. Then the students must make a thesis or dissertation. 

4.   Ending semester, Students must make a seminar and become Keynote Speakers.

5.   Ending semester, Students must make a presentation video about Testimonials from public recognition of the Scientific Feasibility of the majors taken by students, and its contents about oral presentations and forms of activity in detail.

6.   This regulation applies to all students who take the tutorial or full 100% of the Independent Study.

Learning Management System (LMS): 

Courses :

A learning management system (LMS) is a software application for the administration, documentation, tracking, reporting, and delivery of educational courses, training programs, or learning and development programs. The learning management system concept emerged directly from e-Learning. Although the first LMS appeared in the higher education sector, the majority of the LMSs today focus on the corporate market. Learning Management Systems make up the largest segment of the learning system market. The first introduction of the LMS was in the late 1990s.


Learning management systems were designed to identify training and learning gaps, utilizing analytical data and reporting. LMSs are focused on online learning delivery but support a range of uses, acting as a platform for online content, including courses, both asynchronous based and synchronous based. An LMS may offer classroom management for instructor-led training or a flipped classroom, used in higher education, but not in the corporate space.
